Sweden takes the UK by storm as
it exports one of its prime musical sensations to our shores – welcome Oh
Laura. With their debut single, ‘Release
Me’ already
boasting phenomenal Swedish chart success, as well as underpinning the Saab
international TV ad campaign, Oh Laura will give UK audiences the chance to relish
their lush musical talent as ‘Release Me’ sees its UK release on 26 May. Plus, with their gorgeously seductive
album entitled, ‘A Song Inside My Head A Demon In My Bed’, hot on its heels for 2 June
release, Oh Laura
are sure to be the must have ‘play’ throughout summer 2008.
Oh Laura are a 5 piece officially formed
when songwriters, Jocke Olovsson and Jörgen Kjellgren, met with singer/songwriter, Frida Öhrn
and immediately knew that her uniquely enchanting and alluring vocal style
would fuse perfectly with their sound. Shortly after bassist Rikard Lidham and
drummer Magnus Olsson were recruited to the band. Oh Laura immediately set about writing,
recording and performing live, from which a loyal following rapidly grew.
At this point the band grabbed
the attention of independent label, Cosmos – based out of the recording studios
of the same name and the birthplace of so much Swedish pop from Roxette to
Robyn. The band were signed
and spent the rest of the summer recording their debut album, ‘A Song Inside
My Head A Demon In My Bed’.
And it was when ‘Release Me’ came to fruition that things
got exciting. The song was
intoxicating and raw and the success that followed was astounding. As well as being included on the Saab
international car ad, which was seen by 240 million viewers and resulted
in over 50,000 downloads from the SAAB UK website alone*; the track also shot
to No.1 on iTunes within a week of release, became the most downloaded song in
Scandinavia in 2007, and reached No.1 on Tracks (Sweden’s biggest national
radio chart show) and No.2 in the national singles chart. Added to which, ‘Release Me’ was awarded accolade of Song
of the Year at both the SMFF* and P3 Gold*.
The band went from strength to
strength and commanded attention across Europe, including recording sessions for
Dermot O’Leary and Bob Harris on Radio 2. The latter was so taken aback by the
band’s vocal uniqueness that he said, “It sounds like a whole life has been
lived through Frida’s vocals”. The Oh Laura buzz has been snowballing ever
since and the total visits to myspace and youtube are now in the millions.
Oh Laura are now set to captivate
British audiences as ‘Release Me’ is planned to be unleashed in May this year, quickly
followed by the album, ‘A Song Inside My Head A Demon In My Bed’. Additionally, Oh Laura are performing the title track - co written by
Sir Tim Rice who is a big fan of the band - to new British movie, ‘The Waiting
Room’, starring Ralf Little and Anne Marie Duff. With their fresh, blissful and unique songs, Oh Laura are sure to take you on
a mesmerising journey through lost love, life and longing – expect to be wowed, you won’t
be disappointed.
