PRESS RELEASE:
APRIL 2008
ALI
ESKANDARIAN
Debut album and national tour dates
announced
Penning a musical masterpiece is
a gift, whilst bountiful lyrical content that’s brimming with experiential
knowledge and wisdom takes life-long acquisition – and rarely do the two come
together…..
Ali Eskandarian
, is the exception to this rule.
This young US songwriter enters the UK music scene equipped with natural born
talent, an exceptional vocal quality and life experience found only with
maturity. With an uncanny vocal
resemblance to the great Bob Dylan, Ali greets the UK with a debut single,
‘Government
Meat’
and
national tour supporting Terry Reid (both in May), plus a debut album
ironically entitled, ‘
Nothing
To Say’
,
released on 4 August.
The Ali Eskandarian sound is raw
and honest, fusing folk, country and rock around distinctive acoustic guitar
riffs, whilst exploring life-rich themes as diverse as love, loneliness,
politics and travel. Coming from a
trans-national upbringing gives Ali total justification and qualification for
these lyrical adventures.
Born in Pensacola, FL, in 1978
whilst his Iranian father trained with the US for the Iranian Air Force, Ali’s
family returned to a politically chaotic Tehran upon the completion of the
Iranian Revolution. Young Ali’s
childhood was constantly over-powered by stark memories of sirens and bombings
as his father fought during Saddam Hussein’s invasion in the Iran-Iraq
war. In 1989, the Eskandarians
fled Iran, finding political asylum in Germany and then later in Dallas,
Texas. 12-year-old Ali found the
suburban way of life hard to adjust to and sought comfort in the arts, studying
acting and film production whilst playing in bands, before finally moving to New
York in 2003 to make music.
It didn’t take long before the
buzz around Ali’s live performances, including stints at The Living Room, The
Bitter End and a summer residency at Washington DC’s The Red and Black, became impossible to
ignore and Ali was quickly signed to Wildflower Records. Ali’s debut album soon
came to fruition as he teamed-up with Grammy-winning producer, Rob Friedman,
for full instrumental support and production. A diverse and individual collection of songs, ‘Nothing To
Say’ is a
superb exploration of our world today through the eyes of the broadly
travelled, honest and straight-talking Mr Eskandarian.
Single ‘Government Meat’ released digitally on Wildflower Records in May 2008
Album ‘Nothing To Say’ released on Wildflower Records on 4 August 2008
