Kicking their live stage vibrance into record format with indie-rock boots tightly laced with a stonkingly-awesome sound, Mirrorkicks release their second single, ‘Anything’, on February 1st 2010. Having just been added to the XFM Play-list and with an explosive live date at The Water Rats set for February 2nd and a debut album due for release in April, Mirrorkicks are set to stamp an indelible footprint into the indie-rock scene for 2010.
Mirrorkicks mean big business. The success of their addictively anthemic debut single, ‘Turning Up’, earlier this year had audiences grappling for more on both sides of the Atlantic, and a US tour is now hotly planned for 2010; whilst their debut live show in the UK sold out in less than an hour of going on sale. Now the debut follow up, ‘Anything’, smashes the band into a vivaciously-effervescent new dimension of pitch and sound exploration. With vocals akin to an unlikely fusion of the grittiness of Sting and the heady falsetto-heights of Justin Hawkins, mingled with a sound that’s reminiscent of The Boomtown Rats mixed with The Police, ‘Anything’ is deliriously exhilarating with a captivating grip.
Born and bred in South London and meeting at secondary school, Mirrorkicks are, Gerard De Waal, Edwin Pereira, and brothers Ingmar & Anil Kamalagharan. Following a period of musical experimentation, which saw Anil performing and recording with Imogen Heap, whilst Edwin, Gerard & Ingmar supported Razorlight at their 2006 Album launch, the boys’ passion for indie/rock couldn’t be ignored and they cemented their relationship with the formation of Mirrorkicks in late 2008.
These guys love music – they literally ooze their excitement and lust for their art through every pore of their body. When they take to the stage they send audiences into a delirium that’s un-paralleled. Burning up the stage with their glam/indie/rock image, their energy charged charisma and of course the deliverance of mind blowing talent to match, Mirrorkicks have become an uncontrollable force on the live circuit. They’re already in high demand across the London live scene including venues such as The Water Rats, Barfly, 93Ft East, Borderline, 333 Mother Bar, Dublin Castle and have attracted the discerning ear of celebrities such as James Nesbitt. In volcanic proportions, the band’s popularity literally surged them from live gigs into the recording studio, where they’ve successfully captured their on-stage magic and unfettered energy into record format.
Now Mirrorkicks release their debut follow-up which demonstrates the band’s diversity of talent, taking them from the anthemic sing-along vibe of, ‘Turning Up’, and catapulting them into the realms of mind-numbing vocal ability. ‘Anything’, takes you to those blissful highs, a place where, for a moment in time, it envelopes every part of your being with sheer ebullience.
