President Street Team Up with Refugee Charity
Australian Pop fusion collective President Street have teamed up with Refugee aid charity Breaking Barriers to release their brand new single ‘Back Home’. Breaking Barriers are a unique organisation that provides an unparalleled service to address the systematic social and economic issues of integration from refugee communities.
They offer a holistic service designed to make sure that refugees can find meaningful employment that is commensurate with their skills, experience and qualifications. By doing so, aiding their successful integration within the local community and settlement. Head to their website to find out more about the life changing work that they do.
Pete, President Street’s frontman, was inspired to write the song after learning about a mother’s plight as she struggled to get to a place of safety and create a ‘new’ home for herself and her children. It was hearing this refugee’s first-hand account that Pete knew he had to do something. He began to write the track with one main aim; to return some humanity to the refugee crisis and depoliticise the humanitarian catastrophe.
Often refugee’s and migrants are demonised and demeaned for political gain, and it is this action that Pete is so diametrically opposed to, and ‘Back Home’ writes a totally opposite narrative. The track perfectly encapsulates the fear and worry of the mother whilst also representing her hope and faith in a better, brighter future – and the musicality of the piece mimics this. The verse’s represent the fear and worry, and the chorus’ the optimism and positivity.
Check out ‘Back Home’ below and make sure to stay tuned to see what Pete and his crew get up to this year…..
