Albuquerque Release ‘Takes so Long’
Hailing from the streets of Belfast, this four-piece indie pop band are not unaccustomed to recognition, having already been likened to bands such as Imagine Dragons, Snow Patrol, and Biffy Clyro. They have also had the opportunity to work with Alex davies (Frances), James Walsh (Starsailor), and Joe Cleere, showing that the industry is beginning to see exactly how much this band has to offer.
Albuquerque’s lead singer Paul Shevlin, who previously won the BPI / BRIT Awards sponsored ‘Next Brit Thing’, provides an amazing front for this bold and impassioned band. His voice is incredibly powerful, and yet manages to be extremely accurate. He is a highly emotional singer, and the sentiment of this single can be felt as much as it can be heard.
‘Takes So Long’ is a song about being out of control, it is about letting go and starting again: it is about change. The track emanates energy and rebelliousness, a feeling that is heightened by the instrumental aspects of the song. The track begins with a simple guitar riff that evolves into an anthemic melody when joined by the commanding and assertive drum beat.
The track also manages to have a vulnerability, a sentiment that goes hand in hand with some of the song’s lyrics. ‘So this is where you go when you need to get away’ is a highly relatable line and reaffirms the notion that everyone needs to get away occasionally, it reminds the listener that everyone feels overwhelmed sometimes.
Vulnerable and yet defiant, frustrated and yet deeply relatable, ‘Takes So Long’ is set to become a real hit. Who knows what this dynamic Irish band have in store for this year, but if this new track is a sign of things to come, then their fans are not going to be disappointed.
